FIDE Tournament Chess Clock

Tap either side to start

Tournament games use multi-stage time controls: a move quota for the first stage, then extra time for the rest of the game. The FIDE classical standard is 40 moves in 90 minutes, then 30 minutes, with a 30-second Fischer increment from move one.

This clock handles the stage transition and the per-move increment exactly as an arbiter's clock would — when a player completes their 40th move, the second time bank is added automatically. Tap the FIDE Classic preset below to try it.

What is the standard FIDE classical time control?

40 moves in 90 minutes, then 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment added from the first move.
